Vision
A school vision that promotes integrity, lifelong learning and attainment of excellence
History
Richmond Primary School is located in the block bordered by Barkly, Burgess, Mary and Brighton Streets in Richmond, an inner suburb of Melbourne. The school was opened in 1874. In the late 80's Brighton Street, Burnley Primary School and Cremorne Street Primary were amalgamated and the new Richmond Primary School was formed.
The current enrolment is 237 and it is anticipated that the enrolment will continue to grow over the next five years. The majority of the students are from the immediate locality, but a significant proportion of the enrolment comes from outside this area. Whilst the school has a multi-cultural bias, many of the children come from second and third generation migrant families. The school provides excellent programs in all Key Learning Areas but is very highly regarded in the area of The Arts.
The organisation of classes varies, depending on the numbers of children at each level , gender balance, maintaining friendship groups and ensuring that there is equal distribution of ability throughout the grades. Usually grades are composites which encourages and enhances individual achievement and social development. Over the past three years one of the school's priorities has been to improve our Information Technology Program by providing ongoing professional development for staff, and adequate hardware and software resources. We are beginning to develop a whole school program that will enhance classroom programs and student leaning.
In striving for continuous improvement, Richmond Primary School is committed to maximising the educational opportunities for all students, with staff professional development playing a vital role in achieving this.
Values
Richmond Primary School is committed to providing a safe and stimulating learning environment that respects and celebrates the diversity within our school community.
The school is founded upon these core values:
- confident, life-long learning
- integrity and self-esteem
- trust and co-operation
- respect and resilience
- leadership and excellence in learning
Of paramount importance are our beliefs that:
- Everyone has the right to be safe
- Nothing is so bad that you can't talk to somebody about it
- No one has the right to annoy anyone at work or play
Leadership
Richmond Primary School values and fosters leadership and provides opportunities for all children to realise their leadership potential. Multi-age composite classes enable children to lead by example and model good behaviour for younger children. In addition our senior students are encouraged to become part of our active Student Council, where they help co-ordinate school events, make decisions regarding students' rights and issues and make impromptu speeches.
