outside school hours care : policies and operation
Accreditation
In 2008 the Service was Accredited for 3 years at High Quality by the National Childcare Accreditation Council and undertake to meet the National Standards for Childcare.
Positive Guidance of Children
Staff will communicate with all children in a positive and respectful manner and will provide children with a role model that reflects values and attitudes of local community and is consistent with the Service policy. Staff will ensure the safety and security of all children, supervising them at all times, monitoring, modelling, teaching and reinforcing safety practices.
Behaviour
If attempts to modify a child's behaviour fail, or the behaviour adversely affects or endangers other children or staff, the OSHC prgoram has the right to exclude a child from this service. When children misbehave, do not follow staff instruction, interfere with other children's activities, verbally abuse staff or children, or physically hurt other children, parents will be informed when they pick up their child. If the behaviour persists the issue will be taken to the Principal and if deemed necessary a letter will be sent home informing parents of the actions to be taken. The first letter will be a suspension of one session. The second letter will be a suspension of a week or equivalent of 5 sessions of ASC. Any further misbehaviour will warrant another 5 day suspension. Following this at the discretion of the Committee of Management an emergency meeting will be held to discuss and decide upon future action. In some cases parents may be rung to collect their child immediately. Staff do everything they can to have children engaged in meaningful activities to minimise the chances of problems arising. However many children are tired at the end of the day and sometimes these incidents occur and we need to ensure all children are safe and receive the appropriate attention at all times.
Attendance by Prep Children
When making bookings, parents must inform the Co-ordinator that their child is in Prep Grade. Prep children will be escorted by staff from their classroom to the OSHC Service for the entire school year. Prep children will always be instructed as to which areas they may play in whilst at the OSHC Program.
